About Me

RM NimbusHi! My name is Blaise Grimes-Viort, and I am certifiably a geek, blending my passion for social computing with artistic and musical pursuits. My first memory of computers was drawing a scribble using LOGO on an RM Nimbus at home, eventually progressing to getting hooked up to the web in 1995 with Easynet, and chatting via Microsoft Chat in 1996.

Following a BSc in Computer Science and an MSc in Secure E-Commerce during which I studied digital piracy groups and their social operations online, I joined Chat Moderators Ltd in 2001 and started working in online communities. I left a couple of years later after working with the BBC, Sony PlayStation and Freeserve/Wanadoo among others, having been promoted to managing both clients and the moderation of their communities.

handbag.comI then grew the market-leading handbag.com community to over 9 million page impressions and 125,000 unique users per month, helping the site to win awards such the Hitwise Number 1 women’s lifestyle website for 2007, and was personally short-listed in the Natmags Eagle Awards, Web Editor of the Year category in 2006, the year we were bought by The National Magazine Company.

I managed the conception, development and launch of the allaboutyou.com community hub, winning the Pluck Community Hub of the Year award for 2008, and the site was short-listed for the AOP Awards Best Launch 2008.

Hearst Digital was also short-listed for the Online publisher – Consumer category of the AOP Awards in 2008.

cosmopolitan.co.ukI oversaw the community management of the cosmopolitan.co.uk social tools which we grew to over 2.5 million page impressions, winning the Natmags Eagle Awards Website of the Year category for 2008.

I have created and managed a number of editorial concepts, including the Question Of The Day for handbag.com, for which I was short-listed in the Natmags Eagle Awards, Web Editorial Innovation of the Year category 2008.

I developed and implemented enterprise-level online community and social media strategies between 2006 and 2010 for The National Magazine Company, to support commercial pitches, brand communities and training internal staff.

After a short stint at Social Intranet solutions provider Webjam, I am currently working for eModeration, heading up their Community Management department and working on engagement solutions for a variety of clients. eModeration also provide Facebook and Twitter Management solutions, as well as Content Moderation.
